Car accidents are the leading cause of death and personal injury. Unfortunately the statistics show that nearly every single one of us will be involved in and automobile accident (either minor or major) at some point in our lives. With this in mind it pays to be prepared.

We should be prepared to both deal with an emergency, and to know what to do when an accident does occur.

Take a first aid course so you can be ready to assist others if injury should occur. Then have your accident kit ready in your car. You should have:

• A first aid kit
• Safety triangle or cones (these are optional but can be very useful
• A pen
• Paper
• Recorded details of your own and your families medical information (allergies etc)
• Your insurance company’s phone number
• A camera or cell phone with a camera (never be tempted to talk or text while driving though)
• Your ‘to do at an accident’ list on a card. Accidents are frightening and it is easy to forget things in a moment of stress and panic.
